What is Astreth?

Astreth is a company created by a large group of volunteers who joined a mutual cause that went viral on social media. Contributing their diverse abilities, their mission is to develop a social media app that creates a safe digital space for freedom and self-expression, while fairly compensating and honoring creators.

Shaela joined the Discord of volunteers when it just started with 100 members. As it exploded to 2,500+ in only 3 days with no clear leadership, she took initiative to organize the volunteers, and was eventually nominated to the Foundership group. She currently leads the design and UX/UI teams for both app and web design, and remains one of the 3 custodians of the legal entity carrying the mission forward.

As the design lead, she has coordinated with fellow designers to create the company website, which is used to share information about the mission, accept volunteer applications and donations, and grow the Discord community.

She also coordinates with fellow user researchers, and leads the UX/UI team in designing the app.

Contributions

Logo Selection: Helped lead the design team in collecting volunteer logo submissions, then conducted a community vote for the final candidates. She then submitted the strongest 3 candidates for a final vote among the Foundership group to select the winning logo.

Website Design: Designed mobile-first website with a team of 4 other designers, as well as modified desktop and tablet size for all pages. Polled the Discord community for User Research to inform UX design. Synthesized community feedback and modified the website designs accordingly, then conducted follow up research on user satisfaction. Maintains the website and updates the blog, copywriting, and other content as things change.

Marketing Lead: Drafts bi-weekly newsletters and blog updates to keep the community informed, as well as manages the Discord sending weekly announcements and otherwise engaging in the chats and welcoming new members. Also manages the TikTok and other social media accounts, posting regularly and responding promptly to comments on posts.
